PDMCFR - 2009
The 1st Annual Patrick Dimpsey Merry Christmas Fun Run
Date: December 25, 2009
Time: 12:30 AM
Spirit Award: Patrick Dimpsey
Sprint Cup: Patrick Dimpsey
On Christmas Eve 2009, Patrick Dimpsey sent a text to several friends with an idea. This idea was to get together and share a run at 12:00AM on Christmas Day. It was to be their first organized Christmas Run, and possibly a new tradition for the old friends.
As the day continued, Patrick recieved a posititve response from just about everyone. In order to accommodate everyone's schedule, the meet up time had been pushed back to 12:30AM. This time is now the traditional time the PDMCFR meets.
The first PDMCFR was more commonly refered to as the shortened, DCR (Dimpsey Christmas Run) and started in the parking lot of Roselle Middle School.
As time approached midnight, rain began to storm down. However, the inclimate weather did not deter any of the participants. Patrick did not recieve one text to ask if there was a possibility of cancellation.
The orginal course ran through Meacham Forest Preserve and down Roselle Road back to the starting location. This has been changed to accommodate safety concerns of a larger attendance.
There were no gift bags, no ornaments, no hot cocoa, no warm fire.
That fateful rainy night is the origin story of the great event we know today. It is forever ever remembered as the 1st Annual Patrick Dimpsey Merry Christmas Fun Run.
